Adult Services

Adult-therapyGroupShot_GreenRoomEasterseals Southwest Florida – Happiness House provides equal opportunity to live, work, and play through our Adult Day Training (ADT) program. The program offers relevant personal, social, therapeutic, and work skill training to adults with disabilities through community and center-based resources. The activities are designed to advance individual independence and expand participants’ life choices at work, home, school, and in the community.

Our adults enjoy participating in community outings, agency projects, community contract work, board games, cooperative activities, volunteer opportunities, shopping, creating art, cooking, tai chi, social clubs, book clubs, and annual special events. On the last Friday of the month, we have “Happy Hour” — a d.j.-hosted dance and cake celebration for everyone in the agency who has a birthday in that month.

In addition to our usual 95 adult participants, we have recently expanded our services to include specialized care for individuals who are profoundly developmentally disabled or who require multiple individualized services. We are fortunate to have staff that has experience and expertise in meeting the needs of the individuals in this program. Because this population receives tremendous benefits from therapy services, such as physical therapy, speech/language therapy, and occupational therapy, this new program room is located in the space adjacent to where therapy services are provided.

Easterseals Happiness House Southwest Florida’s ADT program is one of the few locations in this county that provide services and care to the profoundly developmentally disabled. We are pleased to be offering this program to individuals and families who need intensive daily care for their loved ones.

We look forward to expanding our program even further! If you have any questions about our Adult Day Training program or any of our Adult Services offerings, please contact us at (941) 355-7637.

How do Easterseals services differ from those offered by other service providers?

Easterseals is the largest non-profit provider of adult day services for adults with disabilities and seniors. Through our unique network, which provides resources and support for Easterseals, we can continually improve our first-rate services for adults and people with disabilities. Additionally, as a trusted expert, Easterseals can provide resources to help network participants address challenges such as financing, public awareness/ marketing, and quality programming.

Moreover, since Easterseals Happiness House operates both an adult life skills center and a child development center in the same location, we are able to offer intergenerational activities that are unique to our facilities. The adult life skills and child development centers operate as separate programs, yet work together to provide activities such as music classes, reading, teaching, and playing games, which benefit both the adults and children.

Easterseals Employment Services is committed to helping people with disabilities find meaningful careers. In conjunction with Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Easterseals provides career exploration, job coaching, and supported employment services to students attending VIP Academy, adults attending Life Skills Development, and community members with physical and/or intellectual disabilities

Art Initiative Program

The Art Initiative Program utilizes art to help artists living with disabilities increase hand/eye and physical coordination, hand control, focus, and other therapeutic skills. Through art, our artists are able to express themselves and gain a sense of accomplishment while also building self-esteem. Our artists take great pride in their work and sharing their creations with others. The program also helps each artist to develop his/her skills based on the person’s abilities and challenges. Many of the artists are in wheelchairs with limited mobility and often intellectual challenges. Yet despite the challenges they face, they are able to create incredible artwork. The artists’ work is showcased not only in our on-site Easter Seals gallery but also in various galleries in our community. The artists financially benefit directly from the sale of art, which also helps support the program and pay for supplies.
